Sometimes the best thing to do to treat acne is turn to humble natural ingredients and those home remedies your grandma always talks about. While OTC (over the counter) and medicated products are effective in treating the skin condition, it’s good to know about natural healing ingredients that happen to be highly effective in treating and preventing acne without the use of harsh chemicals.

Let’s find out more about these acne warrior ingredients.
The most commonly used spice in Indian cuisines, turmeric is one of the best natural ingredients for treating acne. It is believed to contain antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that kill the germs, causing acne and also calms the condition, preventing it from flaring up.

Turmeric is also popular for fading scars and brightening skin, making it a great ingredient to opt for.

“Turmeric has the compound curcumin, which is a known antioxidant and skin protector. It enables the skin to fight back damage. It helps to soothe skin irritations and can control acne. Applying turmeric on to affected areas is known to decrease acne breakouts and soothe painful condition of the skin. It helps to even out skin-tone and reduce the appearance of acne scars and blemishes,” says skin experts from WOW Skin Science.
Tip: Mix one teaspoon of turmeric with a teaspoon of honey and use it as a spot treatment. Let it sit for 15 mins and then rinse it away with water and a mild facewash.

Tea Tree Oil

This essential oil strain is a popular acne solution, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. It is said to calm inflammation, redness, and swelling. It is also known to soothe dry skin, keep oily skin in check, and calm itchy skin conditions.

“Tea Tree oil has impressive antibacterial properties known as terpenes that effectively destroy the acne-causing bacteria and reduces the level of acne breakouts,” says cosmetic engineer, founder, and director of Skinella, Dolly Kumar.

Tip: Mix three drops of tea tree oil with your moisturiser and apply it to your face to treat existing acne and for prevention against future breakouts.
